Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation that builds sustainable future and well-being from renewable natural resources. Through research, we create value and solutions for our customers and society by solving local and global challenges.

Our strategic objectives are adaptive and resilient bioeconomy, climate smart carbon cycle, circular bioeconomy, and profitable and responsible primary production. Research is carried out in the fields of forestry, agriculture, game, and fisheries.

The success of our operations relies on competent personnel and motivating organisation, modern research platforms, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration, and data-driven solutions.

Good to know about us

Luke employs some 1,300 people, half of whom are researchers and the other half are specialists, employees who provide support for research, and managers. About 70 % of our work is research, 20 % statutory and expert services, 5 % statistical services and 5 % customer services. Luke has 22 different locations from Helsinki to Utsjoki.

In Luke, the work assignments are both meaningful and versatile. The employees get to challenge themselves professionally, influence the contents of their work and have the opportunity to plan their own work within the framework of the project. Flexibility and responsibility go together. We work in a mobile work culture which gives the employees the possibility to work from wherever in Finland it suits them and their assignments the best. Luke offers a multidisciplinary international research environment with unique research infrastructures, experimental sites, and well-equipped laboratories.
