Tuija Vähäkuopus

Tuija Vähäkuopus works as a geologist at the Geological Survey of Finland's Western Finland unit in Kokkola.

”My work consists mostly of peat research and peat mapping, material processing and method development related to it. In addition, I have other specialist tasks related to spatial data, which allow me to participate in GTK's international projects.

The most important prerequisite for my work is my degree in Geology. In addition to a university education, my work requires knowledge of spatial data software, such as ArcGIS, as well as method development skills. In my field work I need knowledge of not only peat, but also plant and animal species.

The best things about my work are versatile assignments and a great work community. I also enjoy GTK's international projects in Ukraine and Central Asia, in which I have participated as a spatial data expert.
