Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is one of the government ministries. Our objective is that all people in Finland should have equal opportunities for a healthy and safe life. We are in charge of the planning, guidance and implementation of social and health policy.
The Ministry employs about 450 people. Almost three quarters of the staff are women. The median age of staff is 49 years.
The staff of the Ministry has a high level of qualifications as required by their duties. Two thirds of our staff have a higher university degree. The most common fields of education are law, social science and humanistic sciences. Those doing assistant work typically have a vocational qualification in business administration.
The work at the Ministry comprises diverse expert and assistant tasks. For instance knowledge of social and health policy, social and private insurance, occupational safety and health, and gender equality is needed. Many jobs also include bill drafting. There is also need for persons skilled in secretarial work, information and communication, and administration.
According to the feedback from the staff the working atmosphere at the Ministry is fair and encouraging. We support the development and training of staff taking into consideration the requirements of their work. In addition, we support staff wellbeing at work in various ways. We take into account different stages of life by means of flexible working hour arrangements. Our staff can for instance take partial care leave, study leave or part-time pension.
